Menopause

Menopause is a single day — your final period, confirmed 12 months later. What the stages mean, and what changes when it arrives earlier than expected.

Menopause is a date, not a phase. It is the day of your final period, and you can only identify it in hindsight, once 12 months have passed with no bleeding.

Everything before it is perimenopause. Everything after it is postmenopause, and that lasts the rest of your life.

The average age in Australia is 51 to 52, with a normal range from about 45 to

  1. Before 45 is early menopause, and before 40 is premature ovarian

insufficiency — both managed differently, and both worth prompt attention.
